A native Indonesian, Bassoonist Stephanie Suryahadi has appeared with the area’s orchestras such as Twilite Orchestra, Jakarta Chamber Orchestra, Jakarta Symphony Orchestra, Jakarta Conservatory Wind Ensemble and National Symphony Orchestra Indonesia. She has also performed as soloist with the Sekolah Pelita Harapan Orchestra when she was fourteen playing the Mozart Bassoon Concerto, and with the Twilite Youth Orchestra when she was eighteen playing the Vivaldi Concerto. She is regularly giving performances in several cities in Indonesia including Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and Medan. In summer 2013, She attended the Banff Summer Music Festival in Alberta, Canada. She received her bachelor and master of music at Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. She is the recipient of Peabody Montegna Scholarship and Johns Hopkins University Grant. While at Peabody, she was the assistant principal bassoon of Peabody Symphony Orchestra and Peabody Concert Orchestra. She was heard as a principal bassoon with the Peabody Wind Ensemble for Naxos Recording of “Lord of the Ring” by Johan De Meij. This recording made it to the first round of Grammys nominee under “orchestra performance”. Ms Suryahadi continued her study at Manhattan School of music to received her professional studies certificate in music performance. She is an active bassoonist at Ensemble 92nd Street Y in New York City. She is currently working at the Education department at Symphony Space. She is working closely with New York Department of Education to create arts curriculum for schools in New York. Using traditional and contemporary art forms from Asia, Africa, Latin America, Native American culture, and Early American culture, the education program she works with offers immediate contact with the arts and artists in classrooms, in after-school programs, at school assemblies, at libraries or community centers, on guided tours at museums, and at interactive performances at Symphony Space.
